Naera (Short Documentary)

Naera is the story of Bobby a sheep shearer from New Zealand. Bullied, ostracised and cast away this documentary followed his journey as he discovered his real family by helping immigrants to find a home in Sydney. I edited this documentary in Premiere Pro. As with most documentaries, the story was found in the edit- in our case, it was found in 4 hours worth of footage. Our shooting ratio was thus approximately 80:3.

What started as an interview with Bobby quickly evolved into a story told by a campfire. The edit therefore was structured around Bobby's narrations. I also had the privilege to produce this documentary. This gave me the opportunity to vouch for shots as the director and I were stitching the visual narrative in the edit.

The documentary screened at the 29th Sydney Film School Festival at the RITZ cinema in Randwick, Sydney. It also took the award for best documentary sound, best documentary sound mix and best documentary of the night.
